Since we are talking about the bar exams is the Lex pareto notes useful for senior year students only ?

No. It can be said though that it is usually the senior law students that are very much concern of the upcoming bar exams hence the only ones more concerned with the vital key concepts, the Lex Pareto notes are very much useful for freshmen law students as well. It gives them a “general overview” of what articles are to be spent much time on. In fact the earlier you master these key concepts the better. The freshmen years are the best time in the world wherein you should master these vital articles. All successful bar examinees agree that the bar exams is all about mastery and mastery cannot be gained without constant repetition.

For the senior law students, it works in two ways. For those who have gained a “mastery” in the vitals it just makes their time easier to review such instead of doing the summarizing themselves. However for those who seems to have breezed from through law school (“Breeze through student”) and suddenly realized that they will be taking the bar exams the next year,  fret not !!! The Lex Pareto notes comes to your rescue as it helps you to do “cramming” in order to achieve a misnomer “mastery.”

In short, If it works for the unprepared it should definitely work for the prepared.

How is the vital 20 %in the bar exams determined ?

The vital 20 % is determined by studying past bar exams questions. A bar reviwer in one of his lectures suggested to get what was asked for the past 15 years. Other methods such as comparing the Lex Pareto notes with the opinions of bar reviewers as to which articles are most likely asked in the bar exams are also utilized to come up with what is “vital”.

"Going for the kill”, involves knowing the vital parts.  So should it be in taking the philippine bar exams.

Does studying the Lex Pareto notes ensure my passing the bar ?

No. Definitely not. Passing the bar requires more than studying the Lex Pareto notes. You could memorize the vital 20 % but you may not pass the bar. Passing the bar requires that you have adequate skills in these three areas:

Language - Ability to clearly express your answers in plain, readable and concise English.

Logic - Ability to find out what the examiner is asking and answering the question responsively and reasonably.

Law - Supporting your answer with the appropriate legal provision.

The Lex Pareto notes merely gives you a hint on what are the expected areas wherein the bar exam questions might be directed at. At best the Lex Pareto notes can be likened to a weather forecast it does not 100 % ensure the weather for the day, it merely gives you an idea on what the weather would be.

Hurdle the Philippine bar exams ! Don’t just study smart, study on the right things.
